Co-op Technical Assistance Project Associate

Position Description:

Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County is seeking to fill the position of Co-op Technical Assistance Project Associate. The Project Associate will report to the Housing Preservation Senior Program Manager. The Project Associate will provide direct Technical Assistance to a portfolio of buildings in HPD’s Tenant Interim Lease (TIL) and Affordable Neighborhood Cooperative Program (ANCP) programs. The Co-op Technical Assistance Project Associate position sits in the Housing Services department at the organization. Currently, this position is funded through June 2023, after which time we will assess operational needs and organizational resources.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Housing Preservation program team to create, oversee, and keep updated the co-op Technical Assistance curriculum for Habitat NYC and Westchester;
  • Oversee and provide co-op training Technical Assistance services – including Tenant Association election preparation and facilitation, budget preparation and reporting – and training services for TIL and ANCP projects, per HPD’s requirements and guidelines.
  • Provide weekly reporting to team and bi-weekly reporting to HPD program staff on assigned Tenant Associations’ progress per program guidelines.
  • Maintain relationships with partner agencies/organizations involved in affordable co-op development and homeownership;
  • Review of legal documents for Tenant Associations including By Laws and leases and use as a guide for assisting Tenant Associations.
  • Provide one on one assistance to tenants and members of Boards of Directors for Tenant Associations including responding to emails and phone calls.
  • Prepare consulting service reports per HPD guidelines and submit via the organization’s database.
  • Conduct meetings, trainings or other activities in person or virtually with tenants, as appropriate.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of relevant work experience;
  • Affordable housing experience related to asset management, homeownership, technical assistance, foreclosure prevention, co-ops/HDFC co-ops, and/or community land trusts;
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred;
  • Experience or familiarity with NY City, NY State and/or Federal funding for rental assistance, construction rehab, etc;
  • Experience working in diverse, immigrant communities including multi-ethnic and multi-generational communities;
  • Experience as a Community Organizer and Community Development a plus but not required.

Skills required:

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer literacy skills with database knowledge and experience; must possess MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; ability to work independently, and as part of a team;
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines;
  • Flexible working hours including evenings and weekends.

 

COVID-19 VACCINATION

All newly hired employees of Habitat NYC and Westchester must have their final dose of an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed COVID-19 vaccine, and provide proof of such in order to begin employment, unless a reasonable accommodation on the following limited bases is granted. Habitat NYC and Westchester will consider accommodation requests from individuals who are unable to receive a COVID-19 vaccination due to either an underlying medical condition or sincerely held religious beliefs on a case-by-case basis in accordance with our policies as well as federal, state, and local laws. Supporting documentation may be requested. All persons, however, participating in any in-person activities are required to provide either proof of full vaccination or a negative PCR/NAAT test administered within 72 hours, or antigen test within 6 hours.

 

Location, hours: 

This position is a hybrid in-person and work-from-home model in order to better build cross-divisional strengths with team members in the organization and with partner organizations, as well as tenants and tenant groups.

Safety is our number one priority, and we have retrofitted our office with COVID-19 safety measures. We will supply all Habitat staff with masks and other safety equipment upon our return.

The office is located at 111 John St. FL 23, New York, NY 10038.

Regular hours will be weekdays Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm EST, with an hour allotted for lunch each day. Flexibility is required as some site visits to project locations throughout the 5 boroughs will be necessary. Depending on project needs, evenings and weekends may be required.
