In September 2018, we celebrated the completion of Dean Street Residences with a ribbon cutting ceremony, held in the building’s rear yard. Along with Homeowners, supporters and donors, State Senator Roxanne Persaud, State Assemblywoman Latrice M. Walker, Vice President Munoz of the New York State Homes and Community Renewal and Habitat NYC Board of Directors members Doug Morse and Peter Murray attended the joyous event.
Pastor Gilford Monrose blessed the home, and Dean Street Homeowners Erneita D. and Cherie T. spoke about their journey to homeownership. Then, with the cutting of a bright blue ribbon, 15 hard-working families were welcomed into their new safe, decent and affordable homes.
The Dean Street Residences is a 15 home condominium building in Ocean Hill/Brownsville, Brooklyn. It is a certified Enterprise Green Communities building, meaning residents will benefit from lowered utility costs and the neighborhood will benefit from less stress on the utility grid.
Dean Street was a true community effort – 2,167 individual volunteers, including those from 87 unique groups like companies, schools, religious groups and more, worked on the building for a grand total of 19,518 volunteer hours!
Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, advocated or supported this project in any way – you all helped make this possible.
