Habitat NYC’s Women Build brings together powerful women who believe all New Yorkers deserve fair access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. The 2020 Virtual Women Build Luncheon features panelists who are breaking ground in the fields of technology and innovation. The webinar is free and open to the public, and is your opportunity to connect with four powerful industry leaders from the Women Build network.
While the panel discussion is free, tickets are available for access one of four member-only breakout rooms that will follow immediately after the panel. Originally from Hawaii, Sarah Angel-Johnson started as an IBM Software Engineer in 1997. She quickly became a digital transformation change agent and one of IBM’s youngest female executives. In 2014, she revolutionized the $860 million Girl Scout Cookie Program – taking it digital! The launch of “Digital Cookie” garnered 4 billion media impressions with Sarah quoted in the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and more, as well as recognitions such as Fast Company’s Top 10 Most Innovative Nonprofits. Sarah was honored with a US Congressional Award for her work with underserved youth and, in 2019, she joined Year Up as CIO to empower young adults to reach their potential through careers and higher education. Personally, Sarah enjoys motivational speaking, serving on boards, teaching Organizational Behavior, dancing salsa professionally (retired), and traveling with her husband and three daughters. She received her MBA from Cornell and bachelor’s degree from RPI.

Nami Baral is the Founder and CEO of Harvest Platform, a fintech company that utilizes artificial intelligence to eliminate bad consumer debt. Bad debt is a $3 trillion dollar problem that plagues American consumers, especially ones that live paycheck to paycheck and suffer from mounting debt in the form of overdraft fees, late fees, sky high credit interest charges, student loans and more. Nami is building a platform to eliminate this debt, directly negotiating bad debt on behalf of consumers using artificial intelligence.

Elaine Schwartz is a Strategy Consultant at IBM, leading clients to deliver unparalleled customer experiences in financial services. She has advised both national and international financial organizations on how they can transform their marketing capabilities to thrive in the digital age.
As a champion of change, Elaine has been recognized for igniting organizational transformation within IBM. She is the co-founder and leader of the Women at IBM NYC resource group with over 1K community members, named top Business Resource Group in 2019. Elaine also co-founded an internal global initiative, the IBM iX Ambassador Program, with the mission of connecting global teams to share work, best practices and failures to inspire collaboration. The Ambassador Program is now over 100+ members, across 41 countries and is a key culture initiative for the organization.
Outside of IBM, Elaine is a Board Member of Live2Ball, a non-profit, that to date has raised over $300K for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center.

Sharmi Sobhan is a Senior Banker in the Chase Community Development Banking Group’s Real Estate Lending division where she has originated almost $1B in affordable housing loans in the tristate area. Prior to joining Chase, her career was focused on international microfinance with organizations such as Save the Children and Grameen Foundation. In addition, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Haiti and completed a Fulbright scholarship in Sri Lanka. She also serves on the NY Loan Committee of the Enterprise Community Loan Fund, on the Local Advisory Committee of LISC NYC, on the board of WHEDco, and on the Board of the New York Housing Conference.
