In March 2024, we broke ground on Stevenson Commons, a milestone project that includes affordable rentals, and opens doors to homeownership for nearly 1,000 families, in the Soundview community of the Bronx. A joint venture with Camber Property Group, the multifamily rental building will create 117 units of affordable senior housing while the homeownership complex will create 58 units of 100 percent affordable co-ops.

The redevelopment of Stevenson Commons, a 948-unit HPD Mitchell Lama complex, is a component of the wider Stevenson Square project. When all phases of Stevenson Square are complete, the development will consist of nearly 1,000 new affordable units, 30,000 square feet of community facility space, new tennis courts, a walking path, a sensory playground and plentiful outdoor landscaped recreation space.

The project features a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, with 11 one-bedroom, 31 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom units. All units will be affordable with incomes up to 80% AMI.

Stevenson Commons has been designed to maintain contextual congruency with its surroundings and will feature block and plank construction. Block and plank is a construction method that uses concrete masonry units as the bearing walls, with precast concrete plank over the top, to form the combination ceiling and floor, of the next level. Block and plank construction has fireproof elements and is extremely efficient if there are repetitive layouts in a multi-family construction project.
