Project Description

Sydney House, a joint venture with the Almat Group now in pre-development, will provide 56 hard-working New York City families the chance to become first-time homeowners. The development will consist of 26 one-bedroom apartments, 23 two-bedroom apartments, and 7 three-bedroom apartments as well as a shared 2,000 sq. ft. recreation space. Sydney House will be the largest multi-family development built by a Habitat for Humanity affiliate to date.

Future homeowners at Sydney House will enjoy approximately 2,000 square feet of open space and multiple green roofs desirable features given the borough’s dense population. The convenient location will also give residents access to many of the Bronx’s recreational gems, including the Bronx Zoo and Bronx Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Park and City Island. Both the 2 and 5 trains are a five-minute walk from Sydney House, giving residents a 40-minute commute to midtown Manhattan.

Building amenities will include parking for vehicles and bicycles, laundry facilities, and a community area on the ground floor adjacent to the lobby. Each unit will be affordable for low- to moderate-income working families in New York City.

Sydney House would not be possible without the generous support of NYC Council member Andy King and the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., who have given their time and funding in support of the project.
