ReStore Donation Ambassador/Driver – Yonkers

Reports to: ReStore Manager

Employee Status: Hourly, 35–40 hours a week, Monday–Friday

Compensation: $18/hour

Job Overview: This position is responsible for picking up ReStore donations from Individual Donors & Corporate Donors, assessing the donation’s suitability, safely packing the merchandise in the ReStore truck, and driving to the ReStore to unload merchandise. The Driver must act as a “Donation Ambassador” of Habitat for Humanity ReStore while interacting with Donors and Corporations. This position is based at 470 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers NY 10701.


Detail of Responsibilities:

  • Working with and managing volunteers.
  • Drive Habitat NYC vehicles to pick-up and deliver donated goods
  • Load and unload all donated materials.
  • Maintenance checks of HFHNYC ReStore vehicles.
  • Evaluate donations for ReStore suitability.
  • Providing a Charitable Donation Receipt at the time of donation pick up.
  • Must have willingness to learn cash register POS system.
  • Communicating with ReStore Manager regarding incoming donations.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with ReStore donors, staff, volunteers, and customers.
  • Daily cleaning and straightening of ReStore loading/processing areas.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Driver of Commercial vehicles in New York City.
  • Knowledge of NYC “Commercial Vehicle Restrictions” of certain roadways.
  • Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions.
  • Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act as need arises.
  • Must be willing to understand the big picture of Habitat for Humanity NYC and Westchester and know that ReStore is only a part of the larger goal.

Physical demands:

  • Required to lift 50 pounds regularly / required to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Will experience frequent lifting, bending, squatting, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to spend majority of the day driving, standing, moving heavy items.
  • This position will occasionally be exposed to extremes in weather (e.g., heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Work may require using GPS, power tools, climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions.

 

Position Requirements

  • Experience as a Driver of Commercial vehicles in New York City.

  • Knowledge of NYC “Commercial Vehicle Restrictions” of certain roadways.

  • Must pass Criminal Background Check, and DMV check

  • Must have valid NY State driver’s license, and a clean driving record.

  • This position is a 5-day work week.

  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus but not required.
